One of the galaxy’s most unique tech items, the AMDIS must be in close solar orbit of a star to operate. Also known as the Close Solar Orbit Antimatter Refinery, this facility refines antimatter directly from a star’s surface. This process produces huge amounts of antimatter but unfortunately dims the star perceptibly. The end result is that a race operating this system pays no cost for antimatter warheads, and has extensive expertise in the field that antimatter accidents never occur on their warships. Only the Hiver Federation is known to operate this incredible system and the accidental loss of one of these distilleries created the well-known Crab Nebula. Size: 250 hull spaces, cost: 15,000, dev fee: 100,000, TL: 17.
Black Hole Point Defense(Dh): One of the most powerful engineering systems ever built, the Dh system fires micro black holes from their ship-based projector into the space near the ship, seeking to “absorb” incoming missiles and attacking small craft. The Dh fires 8 times(at 8 to hit), treats fighters as missiles, engages sprint-mode missiles at –2, and is command datalink capable. The Dh, when fired, can cause up to 2 points of damage out to range 5 if used offensively(similar to Dk series weapons), is not capable of accepting modifications, and Cpu/PhR doesn’t help. Size 5 hs, TL 17 , cost 300, dev cost 50,000. Thanx Kencyr and Phoenix for the ideas.
Drive Bombs (Idb): Developed when the Io is first designed, these are usable only as propulsion for that system. They maximize concussive force. .05 HS to build, .5 MCr each, 1 csp each. Development Cost: None--discovered with Io
Fighter Presser Missile Guidance System(fRpG): Developed to improve the accuracy across range of the fRp, and bring it mor einto line with fighter rockets and missile. One XO/IO point, Cost 20MC, dev cost: 4,000. fRp to hit: 8,8,7,7,6,5,4,3,2,1. One point of damage, 1 csp. TL8
Fighter Presser Missile Two(fRp2): Not so much akin to the fM2 as it is to the fCAM and fR series weapons. A heavier, shorter-ranged version of the fRp, only three will fit in a fWb. Two points of damage each, 1 csp, .3MC each, 2,500 to develop. Affected normally by –AM and –AAM. To hit: 3,4,5,4,3. To hit with fRpG: 8,7,6,5,4,3. TL9.
Fighter Presser Missile Three(fRp3): This is the long-range standoff version, similar to fTo or fM2. Four will fit into a fWb. One point of damage each, 1 csp, .35MC each, 3,500 to develop. Unaffected by –AM, -AAM doubles damage. To hit: 1,2,3,4,5,6,5,4,3, 2,1.
Jc SBMHAWK(JcSBMHAWK): One of the most potent weapons on the battlefield ever seen, the JC SBMHAWK was first utilized in the Battle of Maximus, when the Vestrii were invading this strategic Basmoli system, also home to their Fleet School and a large mining extraction array. These SBMHAWKs devastated the unprepared Basmoli forces by appearing behind their lines, unlike regular SBMHAWKs(which travel through a WP and into the surrounding space). The Jc SBMHAWK employs the advanced Jc3 engine, a CD body, and a LLT warhead! This pod can transit up to 30 hexes away from a WP and travels at speed 12 to reach its target. Cost: 50, dev cost: 6,000, TL10. Idea: Todd Kes
Micro-Carrier(CVM): An innovative system developed first by the Draka Dominion, this high-speed carrier proved effective in many battles, including the Battle of Penzatti, in which the Draka Dominion fended off not only a Goog assault, but a Thranx fleet as well. CVM are 10-19 hull spaces in size, and is treated as a CT for costs and engines.
Neurocomputers(Ncpu): This hideous process involves taking the live brains of a sentient being, preferably N’Hydran whalesingers, and incorporating them into hardware technology. Several important Rishatha systems become non-functional if the neurocomputers are damaged in any way, and Ncpu are easily damaged by energy weapons fire. Using living tissue is not without its drawbacks, but Rish neuroengineers use the Ncpu out of choice, because they are “really big and easy to use”. The fundamental difference between “normal” computers and neurocomputers is that the Ncpu can exist in thousands of different states and can “talk” to each other more easily than electronic computers can. Neurons speak a terrifically complicated language and each synaptic connection has as many as 200,000 channels, thus massive data rate transmission and storage are the result. (OTHER DATA CLASSIFIED).
‘Orion’ Drive Engines (Io): Creates NO drive field. This is a drive in which nuclear bombs propel the ship. The vessel can accelerate to Speed 12, but may NOT maneuver unless speed is reduced to 0. You must carry ‘drive bombs’ (Idb) in a Magazine. One bomb equals one acceleration/deceleration point. The size of the Orion engine varies. 13 to 50 1 HS per point of top speed. 51-100 2 HS per point of top speed. 101-150 4 HS per point of top speed. Io is inadequate to move a mass of greater than 150 HS. It requires the application of a number of drive points equal to the engine space modifier to accelerate or decelerate the ship one point. (i.e. a 127 space Io drive ship, desiring a speed of 8, will need 32 HS devoted to the engine, and require the detonation of 4I db to change speed by one point) A vessel with this drive can accelerate to a speed and sit there until it decelerates. This gives a very fast strategic speed. It may turn one hex side of facing per tactical turn, at the end of the final impulse of movement. If it attempts to fire a bomb in a manner other than a straight-line speed change, the ship is destroyed by shearing stress. The drive generates No Drive field, but is immune to missiles on the rear hex side. A vessel below Corvette size is too small, and cannot use this type of engine. An Orion-drive vessel cannot transit a warp point and survive: the gravitational stress would shred the ship into tiny pieces. This system counts as a military system. Engine cost is 50MCr/HS. Development Cost: 1,800 MCr. RESTRICTED TECH: NPRs
Planetary Courier Drones(cdp): The massive invasion of the Argus Republic by the Goog Abhorrence saw the fielding of the Planetary Courier Drone. Wiped out in swaths, the Argus fleet was unable to maintain communications with all parts of the empire and the early destruction of the ICN net within Argus space at the beginning of the invasion only worsened it’s communication gaps. Each cdp has a speed of 16(5.67 days and 2 StMP) and are PDC based only. They also have improved anti-tampering(0% chance rather than 2% for traditional CD). They are paid through the missile fund(4MC each). One hull space in size in PDC, 2,000 to develop, TL4.
Plasma Bore Code(PBore): A devastating high tech weapon, the Plasma Bore was invented by the Horune, as several races have found out. Effect: Fires either a single blast of 60 points of damage, or up to six smaller blasts at twenty points of damage each. To-hit is the beam table. Damage is determined by taking the range, and subtracting that from the base damage. Is immune to evasive maneuvering effects. If firing the smaller blasts, they must be fired at separate argets, or will intermix and disrupt themselves, resulting in no damage. So a ship that is twenty tactical hexes away could only be hit by the full power shot, and would take forty (60-20) points of damage. Three ships that are ten hexes away can be fired at with up to three smaller blasts, each taking ten points of damage (20-10). HS: 15 Cost: 500 Horune only tech
Survey Information Center(SIC): This is a co-ordination center for a survey fleet similar to a Combat Information Center. It allows for better control and more efficient surveying of a system. A SIC allows the survey fleet flagship to better handle the information flow from all the units involved in a survey of a system. If a survey fleet flagship has a SIC, then the fleet as a whole gets a benefit of +10%(RD) to the number of survey points generated by said fleet. The SIC equipped flagship must be in the same system being surveyed and more than one SIC in a system does not increase the bonus. 75MCr, 4 hull spaces in size, 6,000 to develop, TL1. Michael Fulghum’s tech!
X-Ray Laser-Spinal Mount(Lx-SpM): Normally one Dec will fire four Lz mounts but this weapon requires ľ of the full output of one Dec to fire effectively. Ten hull spaces in size, cost 300MC, dev cost: 14,000. Max range is 26. Damage: 15-14-13-12-11-10-9-9-8-8-8-7-7-7-6-6-6-5-5-5-4-4-4-3-3-3-2. A TL9 device. At TL13 it becomes possible to fire a Lx-SpM off of a Dec2. The Laser mount damage is the same, but the stats change to: max range 30, damage is 20-19-18-17-16-15-14-13-12-11-9-9-8-8-7-7-6-6-5-5-4-4-4-3-3-3-2-2-1.
The bane of all humanoids! Holder of power crystals, these infamous world-destroyers have continent-sized motherships and were once allies of the Dionii before their disappearance. These cybernetic-organic beings(multiple configurations) are one of the most omnipotent in the galaxy and have one goal: the eradication of all humanoid life!
*Rishatha Space Entered
For the first time in hundreds of years, the Rishatha Imperiums borders have been penetrated by an unknown race. The last time a race did so, it was the Horune, who were ultimately died at the hands of the genocidal Rishatha. Who is this enterprising race and where have they appeared? Only time will tell….
*Arachnids on the March
The Archnid Omnivoracity’s ongoing wars have brought several other races into the conflict, and threatens to spill over deeply into adjacent territories. The Bugs themselves are gearing up for a major war with the Thennanin, who will surely be wiped out.
*Goog Juggernauts Slams Argus Republic
The devastating Goog juggernaut now threatens several adjacent alien empires, including the unprepared Argus Republic. How the Argosians will fend off the massive Goog juggernaut without substantial aid from it’s allies is not clear…..or possible. The Goog have also recently wiped out the Sackers, Holox Empire, and the Eleveners.
*Thranx discovered
Disastrous first contact is in the making for the race that has discovered a colony of the multi-system Thranx Unity League! After initial reports placed a small colony on a multi-Tworld system, this strange(and incredibly stupid) race of aliens has sent a fleet to occupy the Thranx world. Whilst being at war with both the Arachnids Omnivoracity and the Goog Abhorrence, this insane policy decision will surely be fatal for the discovering race.
